YUCK YUM

There is no accounting for the taste of others. I have taken an assortment of  photographs that ignite an explosion of euphoria. I have also captured a multitude of moments that generate as much stimulation as watching golf on the telly. On a Tuesday. With a stranger at the dentist’s office.

The journey of a photographer is one of hits and misses. The more photographs you take, the more duds you will produce. And amongst those duds you will be presented with some remarkably moving and visually breathtaking imagery. The odds are in your favour – let’s take a moment to manifest.

As the years have passed by, I have [mostly] grown out of my judgemental juvenility that a young creative carries with her, carefully protecting that ego at any cost. When a photographic competition winner is announced and I am mystified by the winner’s image – which is as dry as dust – I now think, wow, there is someone out there who believes this photograph is unrivaled. Often this can leave us feeling defeated, but we must prevail ever so humbly – and spend another $45 USD for a squiggle of attention that another photography competition could potentially provide us.

Along this visionary quest of style-refinement and self-identification, we photo artists accumulate a small army of kindhearted supporters – all of whom have disparate artistic flavour. I appreciate everyone who has shown a curiosity for my photographs [especially the peculiar ones that most gloss over]. It’s an exciting, mind-bending uphill battle. And that hill has crest – one which I may never reach. But if I do, I will sit atop, picnic basket in tow, and toast to my accomplishments and the people who have graciously trusted me with my cameras.

This image made it to the popular yet peculiar print list.
